The Rock was the seventh episode of Season 1 of The King of Queens. Written by Stacie Lipp, the episode, directed by Pamela Fryman, originally aired on CBS-TV on November 2, 1998.

Synopsis[]

Doug and Carrie learn that Carrie's engagement ring is worth more than how much Doug paid for it and they get offered $15,000 for the ring but they have trouble selling it.

Storyline[]

When Carrie and Doug cash in her wedding ring, they wonder if they did the right thing. They buy a satellite dish and a hot tub with the money they got with the ring. They soon find out that they get bad karma from the selling of the ring. Did selling their most prized possession give them their bad karma?

Did You Know?[]

Trivia[]

  • While Doug is channel-surfing his new satellite dish, he comes across Saved by the Bell: The New Class (1993). Ten and a half months after this episode first premiered, Kevin James' recurring co-star Merrin Dungey made a one-time appearance on the NBC sitcom.

Goofs[]

Errors in geography
  • Doug and Carrie try to reenact their engagement moment at the Jets game. The view from stadium outbound looks like it's from Shea Stadium. The Jets hadn't played there since 1983. Their home in 1998, Giants Stadium, had no view outbound from upper level.
Factual errors
  • Doug buys a new satellite dish and flips through the channels. He comes across a sports network and announces "Florida State at Purdue". As of November 1998, when this episode was originally aired, Florida State had never played an away game at Purdue either in football or in basketball.

Scene excerpts from "The Rock"[]

Quotes

  • Arthur: [as he gets out of a hot tub, naked] It's called gravity, Douglas, and it's coming for ya.

  • Carrie: [on the engagement ring] You really fell ass-backward into somethin', didn't you, hon?

  • Salesman: So what are you going to do with the money?
  • Doug: We're putting this money in the bank for our kids' college. Well, right after we get the hot tub and the satellite dish... but then, it's going straight to the bank.
