Deacon "Deac" Palmer is, like Doug, a delivery driver and inventory man for IPS Packaging. Deacon was already an employee there when he met Doug, who at the time was unemployed and trying to impress Carrie, whom he had been dating for about a month, and happened to slip into the IPS Distribution Building, posing as if he were an employee. After a hilarious, freak forklift mishap where some packages in the distrubution warehouse were destroyed, Supervisor O'Boyle discovers that Doug is not actually an employee at IPS. O'Boyle subsequently gives Doug an actual job, and sometime after that, Deacon becomes Doug's best friend, as depicted on the show.

Deacon and wife Kelly Palmer live together at LaFrak City Building 6, apartment 16C (source: season 4, episode 17) during their messy divorce and afterwards for a time, before reconciling and renewing their wedding vows. Both him and Doug are drivers for IPS. Outside of work Deacon is almost always seen hanging out with Doug, and at times, with Spence, Richie, and Doug's cousin Danny. The role of Deacon is portrayed by actor Victor Williams.

Family

Throughout the series, Deacon and Kelly have marriage problems. On several occasions Kelly leaves with their sons, Major Palmer and Kirby Palmer. By season 4, the relationship worsens, and it looks as if Deacon and Kelly are headed for divorce court. By the series finale, "China Syndrome", Deacon and Kelly are happily back together, having successfully gone through marriage counseling, and the kids are happy. He is estranged from his father, who left both he and his late mother when he was a young boyIn one episode, where Deacon, Doug and Danny drive with Spence on a whim to Tennessee, Deacon's father, who lives in a nearby town, reveals that "with the way your mama slept around, I may not even be your father!". Despite the accusations his father made against his mother, he still loves and defends her and honors her memory.
